On the southern slopes of Paarl Mountain, Vondeling at Vrymansfontein brings together Vondeling’s wines and a choice of places to eat, taste and spend the afternoon. Our working almond and wine farm looks out towards the Simonsberg and Table Mountain,
just 45 minutes from Cape Town.
Executive Chef Mike Shier heads the kitchens, with seasonal Cape Winelands bistro cooking at SCAPE, wood-fired sourdough pizzas and family lunches at The Shed, and wine tasting beneath the oaks at Tree Bar.

At SCAPE, Mike Shier’s cooking brings classical technique to South African flavours and the produce of the region. The menu follows the seasons, drawing on nearby farms, orchards and the Cape coastline. Expect generous plates, carefully made sauces and food that gives you a reason to return.
For an outdoor family lunch, The Shed serves wood-fired pizzas on slowly fermented sourdough bases, alongside familiar favourites for younger appetites. The lawn and nearby playground leave plenty of room for children to play.

Vondeling at Vrymansfontein is the home of Vondeling’s wine tasting and cellar door sales. The Vondeling wine estate and production cellar remain on the Paardeberg, approximately 25 kilometres away.

A renewed sense of purpose for a centuries-old farm
A working almond farm with one of the largest orchards in South Africa, Vrymansfrontein is one of the oldest in the Paarl area and dates back to the 17th century. Although the farm has had many faces over the years, it is its current form that we are most proud to share with our visitors. Along with hosting guests at our beautiful new hospitality venue, we look forward to sharing the intricacies of almond farming with visitors, be it at harvest time or when the spring blossoms appear.
